The quality of living and working
The countryside next to your door, good accessibility, attractive shops in a beautiful old inner city - who wouldn't want to live here? More than 120,000 residents can heartily recommend the city. The variation in residential building has increased enormously in recent years. For example, the construction of living accommodation which is friendly both to the countryside and the environment, in the newest quarter Stadspolders, is going on hand in hand with the restoration of monumental warehouses in the inner city.
The old inner city is again becoming popular. Old buildings which in the past would have been written off are again being scaffolded.
Residents of the old inner city are with regard to their surroundings, all rich. Within a short distance they have a combination of history, water, culture and shops. The atmosphere is exceptional and cannot be compared with the atmosphere of other areas. The extremes within the relatively narrow city limits are great.
Residents of the newest neighbourhoods lack historical surroundings. But they have something else: space, both inside and outside their streets and residential precincts. The wide hinterland is near, as is the beckoning water.
Dordrecht is a pleasant city to work in as well. Industry, commerce, shipping and service providers traditionally drive the economy. In addition to this, many craftsmen are at home here. Businesses, both large and small, profit from the favourable locations. At the hub of roads, railway and waterways, Dordrecht is the logistic centre for land and water.
From Dordrecht, locations such as Rotterdam, Antwerp and Germany are within easy reach. This easy access has been the deciding factor for many companies to locate here. Shipping and industry are still of great importance. But in recent years the proportions have changed. The service provision sector has grown significantly in Dordrecht. This sector now provides the most jobs.
This is Dordrecht
