‘Reflection on perception’ is the common thread running through this part of the collection. Born in 1970, Zandvliet signifies a clear direction for art among the youngest generation with his hugely magnified Big Mac box. Perception is the starting point for these artists but they are not interested in the object’s content. Artists like Zandvliet, Rosemin Hendriks, and Wouter van Riessen simplify motifs into diagrams. They are really only concerned with form and this is expressed on paper or canvas in powerful contours. In contrast to the emphasis on contour, there is also 'pure painting’ with its emphasis on the artist’s personal signature in contemporary art. Painters like Rob Bizra and Petter Otto belong to that school.
